What's Included

Wiper Blade Replacement Services

🌧

Front Wiper Blade Replacement

Both driver and passenger side front wiper blades replaced with the correct size and type for your vehicle. We carry conventional, beam, and winter blades. Most vehicles under 10 minutes.

🌧

Rear Wiper Blade Replacement

Rear wiper blades on SUVs, hatchbacks, and wagons get overlooked but wear just as fast as the fronts. We replace rear blades on all vehicles equipped with them.

🔧

Wiper Arm Inspection and Adjustment

A bent or corroded wiper arm prevents the blade from making proper contact with the glass. We inspect the arm and adjust or replace it when the blade is not pressing correctly.

💧

Windshield Washer Fluid Top-Off

We top off the washer fluid reservoir during any wiper service. Winter washer fluid (rated for sub-freezing temps) is recommended for Nassau County from November through March.

Wiper Blades and Long Island Driving Conditions

Wiper blades are treated as a last priority by most drivers - replaced only when visibility drops noticeably, which usually means they have been degrading for months. The problem with that approach in Nassau County is the LIE and Meadowbrook Parkway. At 65 mph in heavy rain with a streaking or skipping wiper blade, the amount of uncleared windshield in each wipe stroke is a real visibility hazard. It is not like slow city driving where you can slow down and manage. Highway rain demands blades that actually clear the glass completely on each stroke.

Long Island winters specifically: the rubber compound in most standard wiper blades becomes brittle at sustained sub-freezing temperatures. The freeze-thaw cycle - below freezing overnight, warming up during the day - repeatedly stresses the rubber. Clearing frost or ice with the wipers running stresses it further. By February, blades installed the previous spring are often cracked and chattering. Winter-specific blades, which use a different rubber compound and a covered frame design, hold up better from November through March and are worth considering if you park outside overnight.

When a customer comes in for an oil change at Broadway Servicenter in Garden City, we check the wiper blades as part of the standard inspection - both the rubber condition and whether the arm is applying proper pressure. If they are due, we mention it and let the customer decide. The service takes under 10 minutes on most vehicles and we handle it while the car is already here. FAQ
Wiper Blade Replacement FAQ
How often should wiper blades be replaced?
Most wiper blades last 6 to 12 months under normal conditions. In Nassau County, the freeze-thaw cycles of Long Island winters are particularly hard on wiper rubber - the repeated freezing and thawing cracks the rubber faster than mild weather. If you clear ice and snow with your wipers regularly, the blades wear faster still. A reasonable rule of thumb is to replace them every fall before the rainy and snowy season begins, and again in spring if they are streaking after winter.
What are signs my wiper blades need to be replaced?
The most obvious signs are streaking (a film of water left across the windshield instead of a clear wipe), skipping (the blade jumping across the glass rather than gliding smoothly), chattering (a back-and-forth rattling during the wipe stroke), smearing (water smeared rather than cleared), and squeaking even on wet glass. Any of these reduce visibility in rain. In heavy rain on the LIE or Meadowbrook at highway speed, a streaking wiper is a real safety problem, not just an annoyance.
Are beam blades better than traditional wiper blades?
Beam blades (also called bracketless or frameless blades) have no external metal frame. Instead, the entire blade is a single piece of rubber or silicone with a pre-tensioned curve that conforms to the windshield. They typically provide better contact across the full blade length, handle ice and snow buildup better than traditional frames (because there is no frame for ice to clog), and last longer. They are more expensive than conventional blades, but for Nassau County winters, the snow-resistance advantage is worth considering.
Can you replace just one wiper blade?
Technically yes, but practically you should replace both. When one blade is worn enough to streak, the other is usually close behind - they have the same mileage and the same exposure to weather. Replacing one blade creates an unmatched pair that wipes unevenly. We recommend replacing both front blades at the same time. The cost difference between one blade and two blades is small, and you avoid a return visit in a month when the other one starts streaking.
Do you replace rear wiper blades as well?
Yes. Many vehicles have a rear wiper, and it is just as subject to wear from weather exposure as the front blades - often more so because it is frequently forgotten until it stops clearing rain. We stock rear wiper blades for all makes and models. If your vehicle has a rear wiper and it is streaking or not making contact, bring it in and we will replace it while you wait.
