What's Included

Coolant Flush & Cooling System Services

💧

Full Coolant Flush and Refill

Complete drain and flush of the cooling system, followed by refill with the correct coolant type and concentration for your vehicle. All coolant types: green, orange, pink, blue, and purple.

🔍

Cooling System Pressure Test

Pressurizes the system to identify leaks that are not visible at rest - pinhole leaks in the radiator, weeping hose connections, and failing seals all show up under pressure.

🔍

Coolant pH Test

A pH test confirms whether the coolant's inhibitors are still active or have depleted. If the pH is still in the correct range, we will tell you the flush can wait. We do not flush coolant that does not need it.

🔧

Hose and Cap Inspection

We inspect all cooling system hoses for cracks, swelling, and softness, and test the radiator cap for correct pressure rating. Both are common failure points that a flush is a good opportunity to address.

Why Coolant Flush Matters in Nassau County

The chemistry of coolant inhibitors is worth understanding. Different inhibitor packages - IAT (inorganic additive technology), OAT (organic acid technology), and HOAT (hybrid) - use different chemical compounds to prevent corrosion. The problem is they are not compatible with each other. Mixing green IAT coolant with orange OAT coolant does not give you a coolant with the properties of both - it gives you a coolant that may form gel deposits in the narrow passages of the water pump and heater core, and provides worse corrosion protection than either fluid alone.

Nassau County puts a specific kind of demand on cooling systems. In summer, Garden City traffic on Old Country Road means sitting with the AC running and the engine idling - the cooling system is working at close to its maximum capacity. In January, sub-freezing starts require the correct freeze protection concentration, which depends on the coolant-to-water ratio being right after a fresh flush. A system that has never been serviced on a 6-year-old vehicle is running on depleted inhibitors, and in winter you are also relying on coolant that may be less than adequately mixed for freeze protection.

We test the pH of your coolant before recommending a flush. If the inhibitors are still active and the pH is in the correct range, we will tell you that and schedule the flush for the next interval. If the fluid is acidic or contaminated, we explain what we found and do the flush the same day. Call (516) 681-0122 or stop by 640 Old Country Road in Garden City, NY.

FAQ
Coolant Flush & Cooling System FAQ
How often does coolant need to be flushed?
It depends on the type of coolant your vehicle uses. Conventional green coolant (IAT) needs to be replaced every 2 years or 30,000 miles. Extended-life orange or pink coolant (OAT or HOAT) is good for 5 years or 50,000 miles. Long-life purple or blue coolant used in many imports can go 5 years or 100,000 miles. The inhibitors in all of these deplete over time regardless of mileage - so a car that has sat for years with the original coolant may need a flush even if the mileage is low.
What color coolant does my car take?
Coolant color is not universal - different manufacturers use different formulations and colors, and some have changed formulations over time. GM and many European vehicles use orange or pink extended-life coolant. Honda and Toyota have used blue-green and pink formulations. Most older domestic vehicles use conventional green. The color visible in your reservoir is not always reliable because coolants can be mixed or dyed differently. The correct approach is to check the owner's manual or consult with us - we identify the correct specification for your vehicle before doing a flush.
Can I just top off coolant instead of flushing?
Topping off addresses the level but not the chemistry. If the corrosion inhibitors in your coolant are depleted, adding fresh coolant to old coolant does not restore those inhibitors - the new coolant just gets diluted by the old degraded fluid. A flush removes the old fluid entirely and replaces it with fresh coolant at the correct concentration and chemistry. If the coolant is past its service life, topping off is not a substitute.
What happens if I use the wrong coolant?
Mixing incompatible coolant types - for example, mixing conventional green IAT coolant with OAT extended-life coolant - causes the inhibitor chemistries to react with each other. The result can be gel-like deposits that restrict coolant flow, reduced corrosion protection, and accelerated wear on aluminum components. Some combinations also become more corrosive than either fluid alone. We always verify the correct coolant specification before doing a flush - we do not just pour in whatever is available.
How long does a coolant flush take?
A coolant flush typically takes 30 to 60 minutes including draining, flushing, refilling, and bleeding any air from the system. Some vehicles with complex cooling systems or remote bleeder points take a bit longer. It is a relatively quick service that can often be combined with an oil change or other scheduled maintenance.
